On Saturday, October 14th, 2006 the Armenian National Committee of Orange County (ANC-OC) held yet another fun filled event with delicious food and plenty of drinks. Chris & Houri Guldjian graciously hosted the Margarita Night at their beautiful home in Fountain Valley, California. The much awaited ANC-OC event brought together all aspects of the Armenian American community of Orange County and helped further awareness of Hai Tad, all in a social setting much like a large family. The greater ANC-OC family included guests from the ANC Western Region, ANC-Professional Network, Homenetmen, the Armenian Youth Federation, St. Mary’s Armenian Church, the Armenian Relief Society and supporters from all over Orange County. Many of the attendees were successful young professionals from Orange County. Over ninety ANC supporters gathered in Fountain Valley, still remembering last year’s ANC-OC Sushi Night and expecting the same quality and excitement. They weren’t disappointed as they enjoyed fresh carne asada & chicken tacos, fresh salsas and guacamole, and ceviche, all prepared once again by Chef Shushan Madenlian. The Margarita Night took place both indoors and out, and included familiar faces, new supporters, and also helped some old friends get reacquainted. The professional bartender prepared the fresh fruit blended margaritas, the patron tequila was flowing, and the party raged on until the early morning hours, with a short break to allow the ANC-OC spokesperson to thank the hosts and the chef, welcome the guests, and speak about the importance of supporting the Armenian National Committee. In his remarks Ara Malazian stated that supporting the ANCA on the national level helps with important issues such as Armenian Genocide recognition, the unjust removal of Ambassador Evans, and the inappropriateness of Ambassador Hoagland as his replacement. As evidence of how much progress the ANC has made, Ara brought a copy of the front page of the Wall Street Journal dated October 13th, 2006 where the Armenian Genocide was mentioned twice in reporting stories about the vote in the French Parliament and the Nobel Prize awarded to Orhan Pamuk. Ara then emphasized how supporting the ANC on the regional level guarantees the success of special projects such as the integration of Armenian History and the Genocide into the California educational curriculum. Finally, Ara stressed the importance of supporting the ANC on the local level and explained that the local ANC chapters, such as ANC-OC, work with elected officials during their election campaigns, represent the Armenian community in the local area, and bring together Armenians from all backgrounds to achieve Armenian national goals and local objectives. The evening was considered a great success by all who attended and questions were already being asked as to when the ANC-OC would be hosting its next event, specifically the Sushi Night!
